Reflexive Verbs — Daily Routine

Verbs where the action reflects back on the subject (despertarse, ducharse, vestirse, etc.)

Pattern: reflexive pronoun + conjugated verb

·The reflexive pronoun (me, te, se, nos, se) goes BEFORE the conjugated verb
·With infinitives: antes de + infinitive keeps the -se: antes de ducharse
·Or attach to infinitive: Voy a ducharme = Me voy a duchar
·Many routine verbs are reflexive: despertarse, levantarse, ducharse, vestirse, acostarse, dormirse
·Some have stem changes: despertarse (e→ie), vestirse (e→i), acostarse (o→ue), dormirse (o→ue)

Examples

Me despierto a las seis de la mañana.

I wake up at six in the morning.

Memyselfdespiertowake upaatlastheseissixde lain themañana.morning.

Después de despertarme, me ducho.

After waking up, I shower.
